Planting Location
-
Plant statice in a full-sun location. They are native to coastal, marshy and desert terrains and require sandy or rocky soil with excellent drainage. Many statice tolerate salty soil and thrive next to the ocean. Statice grows well in the ground and containers.
Watering
-
The University of Florida cautions against overwatering statice, as they easily succumb to root rot. Water when the first 2 to 3 inches of soil has dried.
-
Fertilizing
-
Statice are not heavy feeders. Fertilize once in the spring with bone meal and blood meal, according to package directions.
Harvesting
-
Harvest statice in the morning or late afternoon, avoiding the hottest time of the day. Using a sharp knife or clippers, cut each stem at the ground level. Place in cold water, or hang upside down to dry in a cool area.
