Oregon Theft Labor Law
The failure to pay for labor or services rendered can be a crime in some states. In Oregon, the theft of labor is a criminal act under the Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS).

Definition

The ORS Section 164.125 makes it illegal to use deception, force or other means to avoid payment for labor or services rendered. This statute includes the theft of labor for professional services.
Misdemeanor

The theft of labor is a Class C misdemeanor under ORS Section 164.125(5) if the value of the labor provided is less than $100. Under this statute, it is a Class A misdemeanor if the value of the labor or services obtained is between $100 and $1,000 (as of 2010).

Felony

The theft of labor or services can result in felony charges in Oregon. Under the provisions of ORS Section 164.125(5), it is a Class C felony if the total value of the labor stolen is more than $1,000. Under this Oregon statute, it is a Class B felony if the total value of the labor stolen is more than $10,000.
