The National Fireplace Institute (NFI) offers certification.

The National Fireplace Institute (NFI) is a credentialing agency which certifies professional builders and installers of residential fireplace systems. Certification is available for wood, pellet or gas fireplaces.

  1. Benefits

    • Certified fireplace system professionals have satisfactorily demonstrated their knowledge in their area of expertise. Certified professionals often receive preferred vendor status among fireplace contractors, manufacturers and consumers.

    The Process

    • Applicants must complete the multiple-choice NFI exam, which may be taken online or in person at a designated test site. Study materials and review sessions are available through NFI.

    Certifcation Details

    • Upon certification, NFI professionals receive a certificate and identification badge. NFI certifications are valid for three years.
