Like all other colors of this flower, the orange Asiatic lily (Lilium asiatic) is a perennial plant. The bulbs of Asiatic lilies, which grow in most U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones, serve as a common food choice for deer. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Identification

    • Orange Asiatic lilies have straight stems and a very mild scent. Plants are typically 2 to 4 feet tall. Flowers grow as large as 9 inches in circumference. There are several solid, speckled or striped blooms to a stem. Asiatic lilies bloom from early to late summer.

    Planting Considerations

    • Asiatic lilies may be planted in spring or fall. Bulbs should be spaced 4 to 6 inches apart and planted at a depth of approximately 8 inches. Planting old bulbs is not recommended. This lily is an appropriate choice for a flower bed or a border. Stunted flowers should be removed and discarded.

    Habitat

    • These lilies prefer full sun to part shade. They are somewhat drought-tolerant, but they require moisture during the growing season and should be watered regularly.
