Both men and women have to pass the ROTC physical fitness test.

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program welcomes individuals who desire a position in one of the branches of the United States' armed forces. ROTC programs are available in high schools and colleges and have their own admission requirements and standards that both men and women have to meet.

  1. Height and Weight

    • ROTC programs for both the Army and Air Force have acceptable weight and height standards that you have to meet. Candidates have to be anywhere from 58 to 80 inches tall with a maximum weight range of 131 to 250 lbs. or a minimum weight range of 91 to 173 lbs.

    Medical Standards

    • Scholarship recipients and candidates of the ROTC program subject themselves to a Department of Defense medical evaluation. The examination is done by a civilian contractor or at the nearest military base. Qualifications differ depending on your desired position. For instance, cadets who desire to become pilots can have uncorrected distance vision of 20/70 and uncorrected near vision of 20/30 that are both corrected to 20/20. Potential combat system officers can have uncorrected distance vision of 20/200 and uncorrected near vision of 20/40, both corrected to 20/20. Disqualification reasons include past corrective eye surgery, asthma, hay fever and allergies after the age of 12.

    Physical Fitness Standards

    • Cadets have to take a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) that includes doing push-ups, crunches and running. Requirements that need to be met differ depending on your age, but a minimum score of 75 has to be achieved by all participants. You perform one minute of push-ups, followed by one minute of crunches and a 1.5-mile run. A short rest period is given between each event.
