It's less expensive to file for uncontested divorce without a lawyer. In this case, the party has to pay only the court filing fees, which vary by county but generally run a few hundred dollars. For example, in Talladega County, court costs run $196. In all counties, if the parties can prove they can't afford the fees, those fees can be waived.

As with all legal matters, legal fees vary. Many lawyers offer flat fees for uncontested divorce that can range from as little as $250 to $795 or more. Also be aware that these prices usually don't include the court filing fee or any other fees associated with the case. If the divorce gets more complicated, it will certainly become more expensive. Additionally, uncontested divorces not involving children are usually cheaper than those that involve children.
