2003 Mustang Cobra Convertible Weight Specification

Since 1993, the SVT Mustang Cobra has been the top of the performance ladder in Ford's stable. This in-house hot rod features a powerful supercharged V-8 and track-bred handling. For 2003, the SVT Mustang Cobra was upgraded with a supercharged 4.6-liter V-8.

  1. Convertible Weight

    • The Cobra has been available since 1994 as a coupe or convertible. For this car, Ford skipped a year -- there was no 2002 model, and the 2003 debuted early. Though additional weight isn't always welcome in performance vehicles, the Mustang's long history as a boulevard cruiser made the addition of the drop top to the lineup a logical choice. The weight gain is not as significant as in some drop tops; the SVT Mustang Cobra convertible weighs 3,780 lbs., 115 more than the SVT Cobra coupe.

    Specifications

    • The Cobra convertible is powered by a 390-horsepower version of Ford's dual-overhead-cam, 4.6-liter V-8, so the additional pounds don't make much of a difference. This engine produces 390 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual transmission was standard equipment.

    Production Information

    • Ford produced a total of 13,476 SVT Mustang Cobras in 2003. Of that number, 5,082 were convertibles. A limited-edition "Tenth Anniversary" Cobra was also produced in 2003.
