When you open the computer case cover, check the side of the ISA slot for the serial or part number of your motherboard. The ISA slot is not found on newer computer systems, however.

    Surface Marking

    • The motherboard's surface also has markings that represent its part or serial number. It is usually found on the edge of the circuit board, but there are markings as well at the center of the motherboard that represent component numbers of the computer.

    Between PCI Slots

    • Sometimes the motherboard only shows its model number and revision level for reference. These numbers are usually found between the PCI slots. You can search the model number online and it will lead you to the manufacturer's website.
