Can Pur Replacement Filters Be Used in Brita Water Pitchers?

Brita and Pur manufacture pitchers that filter water.

Brita and Pur are two competing brands that make water pitchers with a built-in filter. Approximately every two months, the filter needs to be replaced. The filters between the two brands are not interchangeable.

Function

Filtered water has a lower mineral content than tap water, and many people prefer the taste. Both brands use the same filtering technology to reduce minerals. To fill either pitcher, open the lid and fill the top compartment of the pitcher with tap water. Water will flow through the filter down to the bottom chamber, where it can be poured for drinking.

Replacement

All pitchers have an indicator letting users know when it is time to change the filter. The type of indicator varies with the model of pitcher, ranging from an LED light to a manual dial. Before you change the filter, place the new filter in a glass of water for 15 minutes, then run it under the tap. Dispose of the used filter, and insert the new one. Fill the pitcher twice before using the water for drinking.

Incompatibility

Although both brands use the same technology, the filter cartridges do not fit in in pitchers from the other brand. The shape of the filters is different, and will not lock properly in place in the other pitcher.
