The advent of more compact satellite dishes has changed the way people view television. Many people are subscribing to satellite TV, such as DirecTV. Proper installation of the dish itself can help solve many reception problems.

Function

Satellite dishes receive signals from satellites circling the Earth. When installed correctly, satellite dishes pick up these signals for clear, uninterrupted viewing, without the need for physical cables to your residence or office.

Considerations

In general, the alignment of the dish itself solves many problems with a DirecTV installation. Verify that the dish is pointing in the correct direction based on the DirecTV dish pointing menu for elevation and azimuth, or vertical and horizontal, directions.

Cable Considerations

Cabling is another major factor with satellite dish problems. Make sure that the recommended cable, normally a RG-6 coaxial cable, is used rather than a typical RG-5 cable company cable that does not function with the satellite signals. Also, double-check that the cable connected to the receiver inside the building is attached to the satellite input, not the antenna input.
