The Best Place to Study Spanish
Spanish is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world, therefore developing the ability to speak it could help open doors in both your personal and professional life.

Head to Spain
-
There's no better place to study Spanish than in Spain. Stepping out of your comfort zone will initially come as quite a shock. However, being forced to communicate with native Spanish speakers will benefit you in the long run. It's also comforting to remember that English is a universal language, so in most cases you can switch back in moments of desperation.
Research
-
If you're currently enrolled in a community college or university, inquire about studying abroad for a year. Not only will this extend your knowledge of Spanish, but you will be able to gain credits that will go toward your degree. If your institution doesn't offer an exchange program, consider taking a "gap year." It's best to take a gap year with a credible organization so everything will be set out for you.

Alternatives
-
If an extended stay in Spain doesn't seem financially possibly, there are alternatives. Spanish is also spoken throughout South America. While dialects differ from country to country, extended visits to countries like Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay or Peru will still provide valuable experience that will help provide a basis for the future.
Safety
-
If you don't travel through a credible organization, attempt to travel with someone you know. Sticking to the major cities and not dressing like a typical tourist will also help maintain your safety.
