History of 1960s Sea Sprite Motor Boats

Most Sea Sprites are found in New England waters, though they are used around the world.

For boating enthusiasts, Sea Sprite sailing yachts continue to hold their appeal. Swede Carl Alberg designed the original Sea Sprite, followed by Alfred "Bill" Ludders. Sea Sprites are found near their home in Rhode Island and all around the world.

Sea Sprites' Long Run

Full keel Sea Sprite yachts first appeared on the boating scene in 1957, inaugurated with the Sea Sprite 23, by Carl Alberg. Available over a span of nearly 40 years and built in the United States, the last hull was constructed in 1986.

Fiberglass Full Keels

Sea Sprites are made of fiberglass and were constructed as 23, 28, 30 and 34 models. The Sea Sprite 23 was built in two versions: the Daysailor and the Weekender.

Racing Sea Sprites

In 1968, the racing fleet Sea Sprite Association was founded. Vintage Sea Sprites are still available for purchase, ranging from just a few thousand dollars to thirty or forty thousand dollars and more.
