Humane Society Grants

The American Humane Society leads the way to understanding human-animal interactions.

Established in 1877, the American Humane Society endeavors to protect children, pets and farm animals from cruelty, neglect and abuse. In an effort to assist individual animal protection agencies, the American Humane Society offers grants to shelter professionals.

Meachem Foundation Memorital Grant

Puppy mills, dog fights, abuse and abandonment are a few injustices rescue agencies battle.

The Meachem Foundation Memorial Grant assists with funding campaigns, building improvements and equipment purchases. Aid is offered in amounts up to $4,000 (as of 2010). Applicants must be current, supporting members of the American Humane Society, and incorporated as a nonprofit agency. Applications are only accepted in January and February.

The Second Chance Fund

The American Humane Society brought national attention to the issue of overcrowding in farm animal pens.

The Second Chance Fund was established to provide a second opportunity at a better life for animals victimized by abuse or neglect. Funding is provided to animal welfare and rescue groups who offer temporary care to animals, prior to adoption. The fund offers up to $2,000 for rescue groups and animal shelters. This grant is awarded throughout the year as funds are available.

American Humane/Home Again Grant

Few people realize how frequently horses are rescued from deplorable conditions, abuse and neglect.

American Humane has teamed with the Home Again agency to offer American Humane/Home Again Universal World Scan grants. Recipients are required to be American Humane and Home Again professional members. Grants are awarded year-round as funds are available.
