Wood Energy Technical Training Certification

Wood energy technical training and certification is offered through the Wood Energy Technology Transfer, a non-profit training and education organization based in Canada. Wood burning technologies are not regulated in Canada, according to WETT.

Training

WETT offers courses to wood energy professionals to receive technical certification until successful completion of a course. Each candidate for WETT certification must complete a code compliance exam with a score of at least 70 percent to progress to a certification course.

Types

There are three technical training courses available from WETT: technician or adviser, chimney sweeping, and site basic inspection. To complete each certification a candidate must gain a passing score of 70 percent on each exam.

Continuing Education

To gain a WETT certification a candidate must complete a declaration form, including details of required work experience, usually 80 hours, and a letter of reference. WETT-certified individuals must complete one WETT certified course every five years to maintain certification. Advanced certification is available for candidates achieving nine educational credits with exam scores over 85 percent.
