The Definition of a Teleconferencing System

Communicating with colleagues is easier than ever with today's inventive technology. Executives can even hold meetings with staff members thousands of miles away through the use of a teleconferencing system.

  1. Definition

    • The concept of teleconferencing was devised to describe electronic communications by two or more persons or groups that are in separate offices or geographic locations. The system operates by use of telecommunications, generally through either a phone line or satellite. Teleconferencing is designed to duplicate as closely as possible office meetings at a single location.

    Types

    • There are three main types of teleconferencing systems used by businesses. Those include plain audio, audio with graphics, such as the computer, and video. Each of these methods provide two-way, real-time interactive communications between parties by use of a single telecommunications channel and other in-house equipment.

    Benefits

    • With the advancements in teleconferencing, companies have been able to save both money and manpower with less travel from one office location to another. Designed to be just as efficient as face to face meetings, many companies believe the process provides for better and faster decision making.
