1996 Mustang Performance
Ford produced six different trims for the Mustang in the 1996 model year. These trims included the Convertible, GT Convertible, Cobra Convertible, Coupe, GT Coupe and Cobra Coupe.

Convertible & Coupe Performance

The base model of the Mustang convertible and the Mustang coupe both were powered by a 3.8 L V6 engine that provided the vehicle with 150 horsepower at 4,000 RPM and 215 pounds of torque at 2,750 RPM.
GT Performance

The GT models of the 1996 Mustang housed a 4.6 L V8 engine that provided the vehicle with 215 horsepower at 4,500 RPM and 290 pounds of torque at 3,250 RPM.

Cobra Performance

The Cobra was the top-of-the-line Mustang in 1996. The Cobras feature a 4.6 L V8 engine that gave the vehicle 305 horsepower at 5,800 RPM and 300 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 RPM.
Transmissions

All models of the 1996 Mustang came standard with a five-speed manual transmission with overdrive but had the option of being upgraded to a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
