Samsung LCD TV Picture Problems

Samsung has released dozens of LCD TVs, and the best place to start troubleshooting picture problems is with the user manual for your specific model. Consider the following as a general guide to troubleshooting Samsung LCD TVs for picture issues.

  1. Run a Self-Diagnosis

    • Start your troubleshooting with the TV's built-in self-diagnosis feature. Turn on the TV and use the remote control to access the menu. Scroll down to the support option and press the "Enter" button, then choose "Self-Diagnosis" and press "Enter" again. There are two options here; choose "Picture Test" and follow the on-screen instructions.

    No Picture

    • If your Samsung LCD TV isn't displaying anything, there are a few steps to consider. Press the "Menu" button. If the menu displays correctly, the picture problem is a source issue and you should check all of the connections and cables from your devices to the TV. If the menu doesn't appear, make sure the TV's standby power light is on. If you have audio on your selected source but don't have video, the problem may be the cable connecting the source (if, for example, the video cable is unplugged but the two audio inputs are connected) or the TV may need to be serviced.

    Error Messages

    • Samsung LCD TVs display a series of error messages related to picture problems. If you see "Not Supported Mode," it means the output from the source device is not supported. This could be the result of using an oversea's video format (PAL) or a higher resolution than the TV can display. "No Signal or Weak Signal" usually refers to cable or antenna problems.
