How a Sunroof Works
Sunroofs introduce sunlight and fresh air into a car. They are available in various sizes, styles, shapes and tints. Although all sunroofs complete the same function, each type works differently.
-
Pop-up
-
A pop-up sunroof is a removable manually operated tilting panel. When the panel is open, it acts as a vent. Removing the panel creates a full opening.
Inbuilt
-
An inbuilt sunroof panel creates a full opening by sliding between the interior headliner and metal roof. Although most inbuilt sunroofs slide inside, some offer a rear venting feature.

Tilt-and-Slide
-
A tilt-and-slide is electrically operated. It vents like a pop-up, then slides open over the roof of the car.
Removable Roof Panels
-
Removable roof panels provides a wide opening by opening the vehicle roof to the side windows.
Folding
-
Folding sunroofs offer an opening similar to that of a convertible. As the panel folds back, it slides open.
Panoramic Roof
-
Panoramic roofs offer large openings that are achieved with top-slider tracks in the top of the roof.
