The United States Postal Service provides voluntary training opportunities.

The U.S. Postal Service's (USPS's) national training center is the The National Center for Employee Development (NCED). The USPS NCED conducts safety training for postal employees who work with major postal systems, vehicles, and mail processing equipment.

  1. Safety Programs

    • The USPS offers several safety programs including the voluntary protection program, the ergonomic risk reduction process, and special safety initiatives developed with respect to specific unions. USPS also has other safety programs created to meet the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

    Lifting Training

    • USPS also provides training for employees regarding proper techniques for lifting. It addresses lifting performed by mail handlers, clerks and office employees. The training is based on real world situations and its purpose is to make the repetitive lifting motions of postal employment easier on the body.

    Customer Safety

    • Postal service customers are protected by the Postal Inspection Service and Postal Police. These law enforcement divisions ensure that mail is safe and secure, and protect the safety of postal facilities and postal workers.
