Cisco CISSP Certification

The Cisco Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) holds a globally recognized information security certificate. CISSP-certified professionals develop and manage information security policies and procedures for organizations and ensure they comply with standards such as International Organization Standardization (ISO).

  1. History

    • In 1994, the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 created the CISSP certificate, according to (ISC)2 website. It was the first certificate created in the information security field. (ISC)2 is a non-profit group that develops and manages information security standards.

    Cisco CISSP Exam

    • To become CISSP certified, you must pass an exam with multiple-choice questions that cover 10 domains, including cryptography, security architecture and design compliance, information security governance and risk management, and business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Your score must be 700 or higher.

    Experience

    • To be certified, you must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in information security "or four years plus a college degree," according to (ISC)2.

    CISSP Certificate Maintenance

    • According to (ISC)2, you must "pay an annual maintenance fee of $85 per year." You must also be recertified every three years. You can take the exam again and be recertified or complete 120 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. You have to complete these credits before your certificate expires.
