What Is a Range Officer Safety Vest?

A range officer safety vest is worn by an officer who works at a shooting range. The vest provides high visibility for the officer to help prevent him from being shot accidentally.

Color

These safety vests are always made in bright colors, such as red or florescent orange or yellow. The color immediately catches people's attention and alerts them that someone is close by in case they are firing or about to fire a weapon.

Reflective Tape

Some vests have wide bands of yellow or reflective tape that run down the front and back, as well as around the waist. The tape provides an added degree of visibility to the vest, especially in dim lighting conditions.

Identification

A vest serves to identify that the person wearing it is an employee of the range. The vest will have such words as "range officer," "range safety officer" or "RSO" printed on it in large letters to make the officer's identity clear.
