Identification
-
The primary piece of mechanical snow removal equipment are the electric snow shovel or snow thrower. With snow removal equipment, as with many other products, you end up getting what you pay for so consider brand names and generic models accordingly.
Features
-
Electric snow throwers can be operated with the assistance of a simple extension cord plugged into the outside socket of your home. Instead of the key-based ignition found on most snow blowers, an electric snow thrower is started with the touch of a button. Since, electric snow throwers are smaller than snow blowers, they don't require as much room for storage.
-
Benefits and Drawbacks
-
Electric snow throwers are lighter, cheaper and and don't need gas -- three big pluses. Yet, they are not self-propelled, you still do a bit of labor. They are also incapable of throwing the same amount of snow as snow blowers nor to the same accumulated height of snowfall. As with all exterior-operated electrical equipment, be sure to protect the socket from moisture and yourself from potential shock and injury.
