What Does the MPI Number Mean?

Within the United States, the national Child Support Enforcement program uses a computer system that assigns a unique number, known as a Master Participant Index (MPI) number, to each participant in the program.

MPI

MPI numbers are assigned sequentially regardless of the geographic location of the individual in the program. The MPI number is used to identify each participant and remains assigned to the participant even when the case is closed.

ACTS

MPI numbers are assigned to a CSE participant by the Automated Collections and Tracking System (ACTS), a computer system that sends and receives information from more than 30 state, federal and private agencies involved in enforcing the CSE program.

Payments

MPI numbers are used by participants for both identification purposes and to verify financial dealings within the CSE program. MPI numbers help CSE programs locate participants and collect child support from from noncustodial parents.
