MOD Security Clearance Levels

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) is a UK-government agency formed in 1971 from a number of government departments dating back to the 16th century. The MOD completes security checks to determine the suitability of individuals to obtain restricted information.

  1. CTC

    • The Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clears individuals that may spend time in close proximity to public figures who are possible targets for terrorist attack. This clearance does not allow an individual access to protectively marked assets or papers.

    Security Check

    • When an individual clears a security check they are allowed access to secret assets and documents. A security check clearance also allows individuals occasional access to top secret assets and information.

    Developed Vetting

    • The highest level of security clearance available from the MOD, developed vetting, clears individuals for access to top secret assets and information. Developed vetting is also needed by individuals who work in the UK government's intelligence and security agencies.
