Are Banks Required to Give Receipts for Deposits?
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) requires banks make a receipt available for customers making deposits or performing other transactions at an automated teller machine. Banks can choose to only make receipts available to customers upon request instead of making it the default option.
-
Required Information
-
Receipts for deposits are required to include the amount, the date and identifying information showing into which account the funds were transferred.
Online or Phone Banking
-
Banks are not required to make a transaction receipt available when a customer uses a telephone, online banking or fax to initiate a deposit or other transfer of money to or from an account.
-
Promotional Materials
-
When providing a receipt for a deposit or other transaction, a bank cannot include promotional materials -- such as information on a new credit card or account offering -- without making it clear that it is a marketing message separate from the transaction information.
