U.S. Postal Service Regulations for Wall-Mounted Mailboxes

Wall-mounted mailboxes must be used in accordance with USPS regulations.

The United States Postal Service has specific requirements for using a wall-mounted mailbox for mail delivery. Your mailbox must meet USPS regulations or your mail may not be delivered to your box.

Requirements

While manufacturers must meet certain requirements when designing and selling wall-mounted mailboxes, the USPS recommends that homeowners talk to a local postmaster before installing one to make sure that the mailbox meets all USPS and local equipment regulations.

Considerations

Wall-mounted mailboxes must be used only for official mail delivery. Mailboxes should not be used for the delivery of items that do not have proper postage. No items should be placed in or on or be attached to a wall-mounted mailbox unless they have appropriate postage.

Warning

USPS customers with wall-mounted mailboxes must ensure that the area surrounding the mailbox is easily accessible by the postal worker and is clear from any obstructions. If the mailbox is not accessible the local postmaster has the right to stop mail delivery services.
