What Is a Class 2 Felony in Arizona?
In Arizona a Class 2 felony is a classification of crime that encompasses many different types of crime. The designation "Class 2" indicates the severity and recommended punishment for the crime.

Felony Classifications
-
In Arizona, there are six classifications of felonies, ranging in severity (least to greatest) from a Class 6 felony to a Class 1. In addition to felonies, Arizona has a lesser series of offenses -- Class 3 to Class 1 misdemeanors.
Examples
-
In the case of theft, to be designated a Class 2 felony, the value of the property stolen must be more than $25,000. Other examples of Class 2 felonies in Arizona include kidnapping, most offenses against vulnerable adults and children under age 15, and aggravated forms of stalking, sexual assault and manslaughter.

Punishment
-
Under Arizona law, punishment for Class 2 felonies cannot consist solely of a fine, although a fine of up to $150,000 can be assessed in addition to imprisonment. Because Class 2 felonies are extremely severe and often violent in nature, the punishment is usually heavy.
