I-CAR Welding Certification
Committed to developing a knowledgeable collision repair workforce, I-CAR, a collision repair industry consortium, provides job-specific training and certification. Professionals enrolled in I-CAR's welding qualification series receive training in the specialized areas of aluminum, steel or structural steel parts.
-
Training
-
Welding training for each specialized area consists of classroom instruction, practice and a practical welding exam. Participants receive instruction on machinery, safety, set up and appropriate welding methods. Testing requires technicians to complete vertical and overhead welds.
Welding Testing
-
Aluminum and steel welding tests require six and eight different welds, respectively. Each completed weld is subject to inspection and quality testing, and participants receive passing or non-passing grades on-site. Participants who receive non-passing grades on any welds have six months to retest; beyond six months, participants must enroll in another welding qualification series.
-
Parts Testing
-
The structural steel parts test requires participants create a properly sectioned part and weld accordingly. A completed part has to fit into a standardized fixture and pass visual inspection; parts that do not fit the fixture do not pass.
Scheduling
-
Collision repair companies with at least two technicians requiring training may contact I-CAR to set up an on-site welding qualification series.
