Mango trees are tropical fruit trees known for bearing delicious fruit. Native to Asia, mango trees can be found in many regions of the world, including Florida and California. Like all fruit-bearing trees, mangoes need to be pollinated before they produce fruit.

Identification

Mango trees produce a multitude of flowers on their long branches. Some types produce hundreds of flowers while others produce thousands. However, most of these flowers are male flowers and do not produce fruit.

Significance

The few female flowers on the mango tree require the pollen produced in the male flowers. However, according to the website Learn2Grow, most mango trees are self-fertile and do not need a second tree to produce fruit.

Factors

Although not essential, insects do visit mango flowers and help spread the pollen. Mango trees also need full sunlight and lots of room to grow and produce fruit.
