How to Remove a Bug Deflector
by Kyle SanstromBug deflectors are long, colored pieces of high-impact plastic that mount to the leading edge of the hood on passenger vehicles. They prevent dead bugs from accumulating on the hood and damaging the paint. Bug deflectors generally attach to the underside of the hood with small bolts that clamp the deflector tightly to the hood panel.
Step 1
Park the vehicle on a flat surface, and shift the transmission into first gear or "park." Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.
Step 2
Open the hood and locate the clamp bolts on the underside of the bug deflector. Loosen these bolts using a 3/8-inch ratchet and an appropriately-sized socket.
Step 3
Grip the bug deflector with two hands and carefully remove it from the hood. Do not scratch the paint.
