Importance of Egg Whites for Bodybuilders

Importance of Egg Whites for Bodybuilders thumbnail
Egg whites are an essential source of protein for bodybuilders

Bodybuilders must eat large amounts of protein in order to strengthen and enlarge their muscles. Egg whites are one of the best sources of protein found anywhere.

  1. Significance

    • Bodybuilding tears muscle fibers. Protein is what the body uses to rebuild the muscle fibers stronger than before. The egg white in one egg contains more than 3.5 grams of protein.

    Considerations

    • The yolk of an egg contains fat, cholesterol and not as much protein as the white of the egg. Therefore, if you are eating numerous eggs each day while bodybuilding, you should skip eating the yolks.

    Warning

    • Egg whites must be cooked; they are not safe to eat raw due to the possibility of salmonella. Egg whites must not be over-cooked, however, because nutritional value can be lost.

    Benefits

    • Egg whites contain all eight amino acids that the body needs to recover and rebuild while bodybuilding. Egg whites also contain numerous vitamins and minerals.

    Fun Fact

    • The name for egg whites is actually "albumen."
