Condominium living is a popular option in Ohio. Urban centers such as Akron, Cleveland and Cincinnati offer hundreds of condo choices. Amenities range from non-existent to lavish with pools, health clubs and other perks.

Ohio Condominium Laws

Each unit in a condominium complex is defined as real property under Ohio law. Unit owners have the right to exclusive ownership and possession of the unit, an undivided interest in the common areas and access to a public street or highway. Owners also have the right to refinish, decorate or redecorate their unit within its boundaries.

Each Ohio condominium association maintains its own set of rules and bylaws that should be read carefully by any prospective purchaser.

Active Adult Communities

More than 60 condominium communities in Ohio are designated for active adults. Some maintain age restrictions. Assisted living and other types of retirement options are also available.

Financing Assistance

The Ohio Housing Finance Agency can assist moderate-income first-time home buyers in purchasing an existing Ohio condominium in a building containing four units or fewer. Loans and down payment assistance are available.
