Activities for Teaching Hygiene
Teaching someone proper hygiene should begin at an early age. Hygiene needs to be consistent, especially things like brushing teeth and keeping your hands and body clean. Activities should be taught in an enjoyable, exciting way to keep children interested.

Glitter Experiment-Germs
-
The glitter experiment teaches students about cross-contamination. Cover a marker with a layer of glue and sprinkle on glitter. Pass the marker around to each student in the class and have them write their names on the paper. Once everyone has had a turn, observe each student and have them describe to the class where on their body they have glitter. Discuss where the glitter came from and how the spreading of it involves cross-contamination.
Hand-Washing Song
-
Teaching children a song to sing while washing their hands is a great way to be sure they are washing long enough to remove germs. The "Happy Birthday" song and reciting the ABCs are both good ideas that encourage a child to wash properly.

Clean Teeth
-
Teaching proper teeth cleaning by example is the best way. Brush along with the student or child by having him copy all the places you are brushing for the same amount of time. Play a game like "Simon Says" when flossing by calling out the different parts of your mouth while you floss.
