Does Illinois Have a Temp License for Cosmetology?

You must pass an examination for a license.

According to the Illinois State Board of Cosmetology, an applicant has one year from the date she is notified of successful completion of the examination to apply for a license. If an applicant fails to apply within one year, she will be required to take and pass the examination again.

How do you apply for a license?

The license requirements for cosmetologist in Illinois states that the applicant must be at least 16 years of age, be beyond the age of mandatory school attendance or have received a certificate of graduation from a school providing secondary education, have graduated from an approved school of cosmetology with 1,500 hours of study and have passed an examination approved by the Illinois State Board of Cosmetology.

If the applicant has studied in another state or in a foreign country, hours of study may be credited toward the period of study required by the Illinois State Board of Cosmetology.
