Information on the DMV in New Jersey

Unlike most states, the department of motor vehicles in New Jersey is called the MVC, or Motor Vehicles Commission. The state Legislature abolished the former Division of Motor Vehicles and replaced it with the MVC in 2003.

Agencies and regional service centers offer all of the services of road test facilities and driver testing facilities, plus titles, registrations and walk-in assistance for drivers.

    • The MVC's website offers an array of online services. These include vehicle registration renewal, ordering personalized plates, change of address, scheduling a road test, driver history requests, inspection scheduling, finding an emissions repair facility, obtaining inspection reports and paying parking tickets.
