LimeWire Firewall Issues
LimeWire is a P2P (person to person) software program that allows the sharing of media such as music, pictures, videos and other files. In order to work efficiently, LimeWire must communicate through TCP/UDP ports, which may be blocked by a firewall.

Connection
-
Firewalls can operate at many levels and on different devices. A basic firewall system can be on your computer, router or an enterprise firewall operated by your organization.
Regardless of where the firewall is operating, LimeWire must communicate on a TCP/UDP port. Its default port is 6346. Disabling the firewall entirely is not encouraged.
UPnP
-
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is an industry standard that allows applications to request ports to be opened. UPnP is encouraged to be turned on to provide additional compatibility with programs other than LimeWire. If UPnP is enabled, firewall configuration on the router may not be necessary.

Configuration
-
LimeWire has the ability to have its default port changed. Users have the ability to change the port to suit their needs by customizing the "Listening Port" under Tools > Options > Advanced > Firewall Config. Changing the port can help identify the source of a problem.
