Getting a high school qualification is important

According to the Indiana Department of Education, an individual must meet certain requirements in order to take the general education development examination. It allows individuals who did not graduate from school to earn a high school diploma credential.

  1. Eligibility

    • To be eligible to take the GED exam, you have to be 17 years or older and a resident of Indiana for more than 30 days. Individuals must not have a high school diploma.

    Examinations

    • The examinations cover five areas and take more than seven hours. Test areas include language arts-writing, language arts-reading, mathematics part one and two, science and social studies. Individuals take the tests at GED testing centers.

    Rules

    • People taking the test can only use a calculator during part one of the mathematics examination. Part two does not allow calculators. Individuals can retake the test as necessary until they receive a passing score.

    Scoring

    • Scores range from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 in each subject section. The minimum score required in each section is 410, while the total minimum score for all subjects is 2,250.
