Ohio Motorcycle Headlight Law
The state of Ohio requires that headlights on a motorcycle are visible to other drivers. Use of headlights increases visibility during evening hours and in precipitation such as snow, hail and rain.
-
Headlight Use
-
All motorists are required to use headlights during inclement weather conditions, such as heavy rain. Inclement weather conditions are those that require the use of windshield wipers. Motorcyclists must use headlights between sunset and sunrise and in conditions where the horizontal visibility is less than 1,000 ft.
Height
-
In Ohio, motorcycle headlights must be situated between 24 and 54 inches from the center of the headlamp. The light from the headlight must come from an electrical source. It must display a white light.
-
Headlight Modulation
-
Although not required, Ohio allows motorcycle drivers to use modulated headlights in the daytime. According to U.S. code, a headlight modulation is permitted to increase or decrease the headlight's intensity. The lowest intensity at any test point cannot be lower than 17 percent of the maximum intensity at the same point.
