In Alabama, salvaged vehicles are those that sustained damages costing more than 75 percent of the car's cash value. Insurance companies make the determining factors on which vehicles can be salvaged.

  1. Titling

    • For a vehicle to receive a first-time salvage title in Alabama, it must be restored to the level of operation it featured prior to being damaged. This includes all safety features such as airbags and seatbelts.

    Application

    • The owner of the salvaged vehicle must submit the Application for Inspection of a Salvage Vehicle and Affirmation Supporting Salvage Certificate (Form FMVT 26-15) to his local Motor Vehicles Division. All supporting documents must be submitted along with the application for the inspection and certification process to be completed.

    Supporting Documents

    • Applications for salvage car certification and inspection must be submitted with the original title of the vehicle. If the vehicle is old or is not titled, a properly signed and notarized bill of sale must be included with the application. An inspection fee and title fee are required in Alabama.
