Why Do My Laptop Speakers Whistle?

Laptop speakers are internal so they are trickier to troubleshoot.

Laptops consist of a built-in set of speakers, so troubleshooting them are not always straightforward or easy. There are a number of tests you can perform to see if the speakers are faulty. Faulty speakers may be the result of a whistling noise that is coming from your computer.

Poor Audio Clip

The whistling sound from the laptop may be the song or video that you are listening to, rather than your laptop speakers. One way to figure this out is to close down the audio you are listening to and to listen to another audio clip. If the whistling sound is no longer there, you may just have a faulty or poor quality audio clip.

Sound Card

Whistling or cracking noises from your laptop speakers may also be the result of a failed speaker or sound card. You can test this by plugging a set of headphones into the laptop and listening to your audio through there. If the whistling noise cannot be heard, you have faulty speakers and the only solution may be to replace them.

Warranty

If your laptop is still under warranty, you can bring it to the manufacturer who should repair the laptop speakers for you. Alternatively, you can bring it to a computer repair shop or consider connecting your laptop to a set of external speakers.
