Automobile drivers share the road daily with commercial drivers.

Semi-trucks commonly share roads and highways with passenger vehicles. It's important that the drivers of each type of vehicle adopt safety measures when encountering one another while traveling to prevent potentially severe or even fatal accidents.

  1. Truck Driver Safety

    • Semi-truck drivers need to remain awake and alert while driving and refrain from using stimulating substances or alcohol. They should avoid distractions and abstain from talking on cell phones or texting while operating their vehicles.

    Truck Safety

    • Semi-truck drivers must maintain their vehicles to ensure that they are operating at peak efficiency. Drivers should routinely check the truck's fluid levels, tires, brakes, fuel tanks and radiator and make any necessary repairs before driving the vehicle.

    Car Driver Safety

    • Car drivers should be aware that semi-trucks have large blind spots on both sides. It's important that they not to drive in those areas because truck drivers will be unable to see them if they have to make a sudden lane change.
