Training to Install Audio Equipment & Speakers

Audio visual technicians perform job duties such as operating and maintaining audio equipment for the purpose of amplifying, recording and displaying sound and images. Their skills are used for various events and projects such as presentations, public speaking engagements and video shoots.

  1. Education

    • Audio visual technicians are not required to have a degree to work within this field but having some form of education is usually preferred by employers. Bachelor and associates degree are becoming the norm for many audio visual technicians. Majors such as journalism, broadcasting and communications can aid audio visual technicians with training. Individuals can also receive training from vocational schools and apprenticeships.

    Skills

    • Having the ability to transport, assemble, maintain and repair equipment is a necessary requirement for this job. Technicians should have strong communication skills, computer knowledge and have a familiarity with multimedia equipment. Good hearing and eyesight are other important skills related to this profession.

    Certificate

    • Certification is not a requirement for working as an audio visual technician, but having credentials will help an individual advance. Upper level positions within this field (such as chief engineer) will require certification and a college education.
