Interior Space Planning

Make plans to design an aesthetically pleasing and functional space.

It's not just the furniture and a color scheme that you select that makes or breaks a room; it's also how well you arrange the furniture. An interior design plan can help a space from seeming cramped, cluttered and chaotic. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Usage

    • Before you arrange furniture you need to think about how you will use the room. For example, a home office, used primarily by one family member will have extremely different needs than a living room, used by a multitude of family members.

    Furniture and Light

    • Ideally, each main piece of furniture should be near a light source so that users can enjoy all areas of the room without being in dim lighting. For example, a couch should have a table or floor lamp next to it, a bed should have a lamp on the nightstand, and a desk should have task light on its surface.

    Logistics

    • Regardless of how you arrange your furniture, there should always be a path to the exit. This is not just necessary in case of fire or other emergency, but also so that people don't trip over furniture every time they move around the room. The layout of the room should have a general ease of access.
