ANSI Calibration Standards
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) oversees US and international calibration standards for a variety of workplaces. These standards are used to promote health and safety for workers, provide guidelines for product development and ensure environmental protection.

Calibration involves checking the accuracy of an instrument or procedure through testing and comparing with a known result (standard). This is an important step in ensuring products to consumers are safe and will work the way they are intended to. Many products are produced in batches, and lot numbers are given to that batch. If many consumers are reporting problems with a particular product, the lot number is used to recall these products. Although calibration standards were used to develop the product, they are also used to determine the deficiency.

ANSI ensures integrity of products from almost every sector, including construction equipment, dairy products, electronics and energy distribution, to name a few. By providing mutual agreements with companies for product integrity, ANSI represents these calibration standards for national and international product development.

Through their standards store, national and international calibration standards are provided for a particular industry. ANSI's goal for calibration standards is to improve efficiency, reduce cost and increase productivity.
