Frequently asked questions (FAQs) can help you find the answers you need.

Microsoft Publisher is a desktop publishing application used to create letterhead, business cards, certificates, newsletters, greeting cards, brochures, calendars, banners and many other types of print or digital projects.

  1. How Do I Add Pictures?

    • Click the Insert tab of the Office ribbon. Select either Picture or Clip Art from the Illustrations group. Use Picture to insert a picture from a file on your computer or network. Use Clip Art to insert from Microsoft's gallery of pictures stored on your PC and the Internet. If you want to insert clip art, specify a search term and select the type of media, i.e., illustrations, photos, video or audio, you wish to use in your project.

How Can I Share a Publisher FIle?

    • If you wish to share your publication with someone who does not have Microsoft Publisher, print the file to the Microsoft XPS Document Writer. The file will preserve the document exactly as you designed it. You may also save the document in portable document format (PDF) if you have that capability.

How Do I Convert to CMYK?

    • Professional printers and service bureaus will frequently request that you use CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow black) colors when you give them your publication. To convert to CMYK in Microsoft Publisher, select Info from the File menu on the Office ribbon. Select Choose Color Model from Commercial Print Settings.

Why Do I Have Missing Fonts?

    • If you open a publication created by someone else and the fonts used in the document are not on your computer, you will receive a message asking if you want to substitute fonts on your computer for the missing fonts temporarily or permanently. In most cases, you will want to select Temporarily. Text will probably flow differently in either case. If possible, you may request that the creator of the publication embed the fonts and resend the document.
