How to Measure Chipboard

How to Measure Chipboard thumbnail
Chipboard is commonly used for decorative scrapbooking.

Most people think of chipboard as an inexpensive building material, but it has gained popularity in the crafts world. It is used to add personality and creativity to scrapbooking pages.

  1. About Chipboard

    • Chipboard is recycled wood that is broken down into bits and pieces. These small bits of wood, also know as chips, are then compressed together into sheets. The thickness of the sheets varies, which is why chipboard can be used both as a building material and as a scrapbooking one.

    Chipboard Sizes

    • Chipboard comes in several sizes and thicknesses. The most common thicknesses are .10 and .05 inches. The height and length of a standard-size chipboard sheet is 22 inches by 28 inches, but some can be as large as 28 inches by 44 inches. This makes chipboard very useful for many different crafts.

    Measuring Chipboard

    • In order to properly measure the thickness of chipboard, you need a tool called a micrometer. A regular ruler is too large for that measurement, but will work just fine for measuring the length and height of a piece.
