The Autodesk corporation produces 2D and 3D design software that is often used in the building design, manufacturing and entertainment industries. The business is most noted for the AutoCAD design software. The company was founded in 1982 by John Walker.

Early Life

John Walker was born in 1950. He lives in Lignieres, Switzerland. He wrote the ANIMAL software in in 1974/1975. This is considered one of the first computer viruses because its purpose was to self-replicate on UNIVAC 1100 machines. Walker founded the Autodesk company in Mill Valley, California in 1982 along with Carl Bass, who is the current president and CEO.
Move to Switzerland

In 1991 John Walker moved to Switzerland, where he now works on projects such as the random number generator HotBits and his Earth and Moon viewer. Walker is also known for taking the 196 Palindrome Quest to 1,000,000 digits. He wrote a novel called The Hacker and the Ant, and a diet book entitled The Hacker's Diet.

John has also written articles on social activism such as The Digital Imprimatur which is about internet censorship. During the fall of the Soviet Union, he created a bumper sticker that said "Evil Empires: One down, one to go" with a United States flag appearing next to a Soviet flag that was crossed out.
