Hair Replacement Technology

Hair transplant technology is used to replace hair loss. As of 2010, the techniques that surgeons use for this type of procedure have been significantly developed since hair plugs were first used to remedy this situation.

Strip Incisions

Strip incisions are a common type of hair replacement technology that surgeons use to transplant hair follicles from one part of the body to areas of balding on a patient's head. This is accomplished by removing strips of skin from the donor's body and then extracting the hair follicles from the skin and implanting them into the desired area.

Follicular Unit Extraction

Follicular Unit Extraction is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from an area on the scalp and then reinserts them into the hairline. This is a modern form of hair replacement technology that surgeons typically use with a local anesthetic.

Mini-micrografting

Surgeons utilize a multi-bladed knife to quickly cut thin strips of tissue and then graft them into the area of the hairline where hair loss has occurred. The excess skin is not trimmed away during this procedure and the patient's wounds are usually larger. This form of hair replacement technology is less expensive than other hair replacement methods and requires less time to perform by surgeons.
