How to Repair CPR Mannequins
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) mannequins are utilized to teach people lifesaving maneuvers. Since mannequins are often moved around, it can lead the mannequin to fall into disrepair. Repairing a mannequin can be performed easily and usually only involves a simple cleaning.
-
Disassembly
-
Cleaning the mannequin involves disassembling the figure. Remove the chest piece and discard the disposable lung insert. Remove and separate the mouth and nose pieces. The head and airway can be taken out of the chest cavity by pulling the cotter pin from the rod and pulling the rod out of the mannequin.
Cleaning
-
All pieces of the mannequin can be cleaned with mild soap and water. The mannequin or parts of it should not be submersed in any cleaning fluids or water. All external and internal surfaces should be cleaned with warm, soapy water and dried immediately to avoid bacterial and fungal growth.
-
Reassembly
-
The mannequin is reassembled by securing the ball valve in the head by placing the one-way valve into the top of the airway and into the exposed part of the ball valve. Place the feed tube in the hole of the neck and then place the head with a clevis pin and cotter pin. Place a new set of lungs into the airway and reattach the chest. Replace the mouth and nose pieces with a new set, for each individual student.
