The Difficulty of an English Style Bedroom
An English-style bedroom refers to a regal style of decor consisting of large, matching pieces of wooden furniture and elegant fabrics with vivid colors and designs. This type of style does have drawbacks and difficult issues. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Expense
-
A true English-style bedroom is not for someone with a limited budget. Aside from the price of original antique furniture or reproductions, it calls for a mix of rich fabrics such as silk and velvet, plush area rugs and a mix of throw pillows such as neck rolls and bolsters with tassels.
Logistics
-
Regardless of what style of bedroom you have, English country style or a formal English style both dictate using medium to dark types of wood for the furniture, such as cherry and mahogany. The beds are always large, heavy structures with a moderate to large amount of detail. This can be a difficult look to pull off in a small, dim room as it could easily look cluttered and dreary.
-
Balance
-
A true English-style bedroom will look like it has a harmonious balance of color and pattern. This can be difficult to achieve. Ideally, the patterns should include florals or stripes among solid colors, with rich shades of ivory or autumnal colors or dark shades like sapphire, ruby or emerald. Done incorrectly, the room could look busy and garish.
